Xiaomi patents layered solid state EV battery
News, 5 July 2025
Xiaomi has been granted a patent for a novel solid-state electric vehicle (EV) battery architecture. This patented design employs a layered electrode configuration, which is engineered to augment both ionic conductivity and energy density.
The structure incorporates a current collector interlayered with active materials, conductive agents, binders, and a solid electrolyte comprising polymers and metal salts. The permeation of the solid electrolyte through the electrode layers critically shortens ion transport pathways, thereby optimizing performance, particularly for high-rate charging applications.
Xiaomi indicates that this technological advancement maintains compatibility with established lithium battery manufacturing processes. A functional prototype incorporates a Cell-to-Body (CTB) architecture, yielding a volumetric efficiency of 77.8%. Performance metrics include a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC)-rated range of 1,199 km (745 miles), with an observed capacity to acquire 805 km (500 miles) of range within ten minutes via contemporary fast-charging systems. The compact form factor, measuring 120 mm (4.7 inches) in height, further contributes to improved spatial utilization and mass distribution within EV platforms.
