Hyundai Mobis leads global push into holographic windshield displays

Press Release, 5 February 2026

Hyundai Mobis has announced a major new global collaboration aimed at transforming how drivers interact with information on the road. The company has formed a four-member “Quad Alliance” with European technology leaders ZEISS, tesa, and Saint-Gobain Sekurit to develop and industrialize next-generation Holographic Windshield Displays (HWD) for passenger vehicles.

This alliance brings together complementary expertise across optics, film technology, automotive glass and vehicle interface systems to build a one-stop supply chain capable of mass producing HWD technology by around 2029. Hyundai Mobis will handle the overall system design and integration, ZEISS will focus on optical design and holographic master development, tesa will support mass replication of holographic films, and Saint-Gobain Sekurit will take charge of precision lamination of the special film into automotive glass.

The Holographic Windshield Display represents a significant shift from conventional screens — using the vehicle’s front windshield itself as a large, see-through display surface. By integrating a high-transparency Holographic Optical Element (HOE) film directly into the windshield, the system can project critical driver information and infotainment content within the driver’s normal line of sight without the need for separate physical screens. This approach enhances safety by reducing the need for drivers to look away from the road, and offers an intuitive, futuristic user experience.

According to Hyundai Mobis, the technology achieves excellent visibility even in bright conditions thanks to very high optical performance, and its design prevents passengers from viewing driver-specific content. The strategic alliance is intended not only to share development risk and expertise, but also to provide automakers with a ready-to-deploy solution as demand for advanced in-vehicle display systems grows.
