Indie, Mahindra join forces to bring smart in-cabin safety to electric SUVs
Press Release, 6 February 2026
indie Semiconductor has struck a strategic partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited to power one of the most advanced in-cabin safety systems available in the Indian automotive market. The collaboration combines indie’s recently acquired emotion3D CABIN EYE® perception software with Mahindra’s custom EyeDentity camera-based driver and occupant monitoring hardware for the company’s Electric Origin SUVs, including the XEV 9e and BE 6 models.
Mahindra has already earned a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat-NCAP) for these electric SUVs, and this new technology partnership aims to extend safety well beyond current testing protocols and regulatory requirements in India. The integrated system continuously monitors driver attentiveness, responsiveness and occupant presence, helping to detect signs of drowsiness, distraction or other risky behaviour inside the cabin. With the software’s efficient, low-latency perception algorithms and compatibility with Mahindra’s over-the-air (OTA) update platform, vehicles can receive ongoing safety and feature enhancements long after they leave the showroom.
As advanced driver assistance systems evolve, effective in-car monitoring is becoming a core enabler of next-generation safety features. Unlike traditional solutions that demand high processing power and precise sensor setups, indie’s CABIN EYE software is designed to operate with minimal embedded resources and is robust to variations in camera placement and sensor selection — making it easier for automakers to deploy at scale.
indie’s partnership with Mahindra highlights the growing emphasis on occupant-centric safety systems among global vehicle makers. According to Florian Seitner, vice president and general manager of perception software at indie, the deal underscores their shared ambition “to deliver intelligent software solutions that improve road safety and elevate the driving experience.”
This move not only reinforces Mahindra’s reputation for leading vehicle safety in India but also positions both companies at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge monitoring technology into mainstream electric vehicles.
