Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV supercharge robotaxi strategy for global scale
Press Release, 12 January 2026
Pony.ai a developer of autonomous driving systems and BAIC BJEV, the electric vehicle and manufacturing arm of China’s BAIC Group, have agreed to significantly deepen their strategic partnership to accelerate the development, production, and global commercialization of Level 4 Robotaxis. This enhanced collaboration builds on their existing relationship, which began in 2024, and is designed to move autonomous mobility beyond pilot tests into high-volume, real-world operation.
Under the expanded agreement, the two companies will work more closely on co-designing purpose-built Robotaxi models and refining vehicle architectures to better support autonomous driving and passenger experience. This includes joint efforts to optimize in-cab systems, improve lifecycle management, and enhance overall operational efficiency areas crucial for turning complex autonomous technology into a scalable commercial service. By leveraging BAIC BJEV’s manufacturing scale and robust supply chain alongside Pony.ai’s autonomous software expertise, the partners aim to cut costs and ready the platform for broader deployment.
One of the key products of this alliance so far is the Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi, a seventh-generation autonomous vehicle jointly developed by Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV. Since its debut, over 600 units have rolled off the production line and are now serving customers in major Chinese cities like Beijing and Shenzhen, demonstrating that Robotaxis are moving steadily toward commercial viability.
The expanded partnership also emphasizes collaboration beyond engineering, including fleet user acquisition, operational support, maintenance solutions, and cost reduction strategies. Together, the companies are building not just vehicles but the business ecosystems needed to make autonomous ride-hailing both efficient and profitable at scale.
With plans to introduce their jointly developed Robotaxi platforms to international markets, including parts of Europe and the Middle East, Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV are positioning themselves at the forefront of the global autonomous mobility revolution turning what was once futuristic technology into a tangible transport solution.
