Ashok Leyland has taken a major leap into India’s sustainable transport future by inaugurating its new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The facility commissioned on January 9, 2026 marks a significant milestone in both the company’s green mobility strategy and the state’s rapid industrial transformation.
Located in the Sarojini Nagar Industrial Area near Lucknow Airport, this state-of-the-art manufacturing unit is dedicated to producing clean, electric commercial vehicles, including electric buses. Built with advanced automation and sustainability features such as rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and a zero-discharge initiative, the plant exemplifies how green manufacturing practices can coexist with industrial growth.
The facility was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, underlining strong central and state support for India’s electric mobility agenda.
This project reflects Ashok Leyland’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. With an initial annual capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles, the plant is expected to expand as demand grows, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a key hub for EV production in India.

The facility is projected to create 1,000 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect roles, spanning logistics, services, and MSMEs, while also fostering skill development through planned training programs for local youth.
