Maruti Suzuki launches WagonR with Swivel Seat, pioneering inclusive mobility in India
Press Release, 18 December 2025
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced the launch of the WagonR with an optional swivel seat, a first-of-its-kind step in India’s mass-market car segment aimed at promoting inclusive mobility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based startup TRUEAssist Technology Pvt. Ltd. under Maruti Suzuki’s Startup Incubation Program with NSRCEL–IIM Bangalore, reinforces the brand’s commitment to delivering the “Joy of Mobility” to all.
Inspired by Suzuki Group’s global philosophy “By Your Side”, the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10, which focuses on reducing inequality. The swivel seat can be ordered as a retrofit kit at Maruti Suzuki ARENA dealerships, and installed in both new and existing WagonR models. Initially available in over 200 dealerships across 11 cities, the rollout will expand based on customer demand.
The WagonR’s tallboy design, known for its spacious cabin and easy ingress/egress, makes it an ideal platform for this accessibility feature. The swivel seat has been tested and certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for safety and can be installed without altering the vehicle’s structure. It also comes with a 3-year warranty, ensuring long-term peace of mind for users.
Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized, “This initiative embodies our vision of inclusive mobility and our commitment to empower customers with dignity and independence in their daily journeys.”
Naina Padaki, Founder of TRUEAssist Technology, added, “Our collaboration with Maruti Suzuki ensures that assistive mobility reaches more Indian households, turning inclusive design into mainstream reality.”
With this launch, Maruti Suzuki takes a meaningful stride toward human-centric, accessible automotive innovation, setting new standards for inclusivity in India’s mobility landscape.
