LG pushes software-defined vehicle future with global SDV meetup
Press Release, 5 December 2025
LG Electronics has taken a major step forward in shaping the future of automotive software by co-hosting the first-ever Eclipse SDV Community Meetup in South Korea on December 4, 2025. The event held at LG Sciencepark in Seoul brought together top global automakers and mobility players including BMW, ETAS and Hyundai Mobis.
The gathering focused on building a unified open-source software ecosystem for “software-defined vehicles” (SDVs). Today’s cars already contain over 100 million lines of code — a number that will only grow as vehicles become more software-centric. Roughly 70% of that code involves basic, non-differentiating elements like operating systems, security layers, and communication frameworks. Rather than each automaker reinventing the wheel, the SDV community aims to develop shared, standardized modules — reducing redundancy, cutting development costs, and speeding up delivery of new features like advanced infotainment or driver-assistance functions.
LG brings to the table its long-standing experience with open-source platforms, such as its webOS Open-Source Edition, and its ongoing contributions to major SDV projects like S-CORE and Pullpiri — both aimed at streamlining vehicle software development on a common foundation.
By spearheading this initiative and uniting global industry players, LG aims to lead the transition to smarter, safer and more efficient vehicles — paving the way for a collaboration-driven SDV future.
