ChargeZone launches “Project e-Dhara” to power EV highways with renewables
Press Release, 24 November 2025
ChargeZone, India’s EV charging network operator with more than 13,500 charging points, has announced a bold new initiative named Project E‑DHARA (Electrifying and Decarbonising Highways through Accelerated Renewable Adoption) to convert its highway charging hubs entirely to renewable energy. The effort kicks off in 2025 with the first site at Dahej, Gujarat, where a 1 MW solar plant and a 5 MWh battery energy storage system will power the hub—designed to operate off-grid for much of the time.
This move addresses a major challenge in electric mobility: while EVs themselves reduce tailpipe emissions, much of India’s electricity still comes from coal-fired plants, which limits overall environmental benefits. Project E-DHARA combines solar power, battery storage and high-speed charging infrastructure to create a truly clean energy ecosystem for electric vehicles—both passenger and freight. The ambition is to roll out 100 renewable-powered charging hubs along key national highways by next year, setting a benchmark for sustainable mobility infrastructure in India.
By aligning clean energy production with EV charging networks, ChargeZone is aiming not just to support the transition to electric mobility but to ensure that the energy behind that shift is also decarbonised. According to its Founder & CEO, Kartikey Hariyani, “true decarbonisation can only be achieved when the energy that powers EVs is entirely renewable.” The strategy signals a meaningful leap toward India’s net-zero vision, and positions ChargeZone as a pivotal player in building infrastructure that supports the next generation of sustainable transport.
