STMicroelectronics launches NB-IoT modules for smart connectivity
Global semiconductor firm STMicroelectronics has unveiled two new additions to its ST87M01 narrow-band IoT (NB-IoT) module family—tailored to enable smart, durable connectivity in everything from logistics tracking to smart lighting—and rolled out a strengthened development ecosystem to accelerate adoption. The two modules—ST87M01-1001 (NB-IoT only) and ST87M01-1301 (NB-IoT with GNSS + Wi-Fi positioning)—are designed for ultra-low-power, compact use in real-world deployments such as environmental monitoring, smart parking and remote health devices.
In addition to the hardware, STMicroelectronics has introduced an evaluation kit (EVKITST87M01-2) that includes a ready-to-use Conexa IoT SIM card and antennas, simplifying prototyping and real-world testing. A new “Easy-Connect” software library helps developers integrate NB-IoT, Wi-Fi and GNSS functions across hardware platforms, lowering barriers to market. To further support integration, ST is collaborating with authorized partners like Wireless Logic (for SIM connectivity), Ignion (for Virtual Antenna® RF design tools) and DAOS (for end-to-end system development support).
This release aligns with the automotive and industrial trend toward connected, low-power devices that require seamless and secure wireless links. With prior ST87M01 modules already deployed in smart-metering projects across Europe, this latest update allows expansion into new markets requiring geolocation and indoor positioning.
STMicroelectronics says that by offering a module plus ecosystem solution, it’s addressing both developer speed and deployment complexity—key as industries push toward scalable IoT systems.
