Cinemo expands beyond cars with Open Cloud Media Ecosystem for home & business

German infotainment software specialist Cinemo is making a leap out of the automotive cockpit and into the living room and workplace. After a decade of powering in-vehicle systems in more than 150 million cars, the company has unveiled a dedicated business unit targeting consumer and commercial electronics — bringing its automotive-grade media platform to everyday devices.

The new initiative centres around an open cloud-based ecosystem, designed to enable seamless interoperability between device makers, content providers and end-users. Cinemo’s vision: eliminate the fragmentation of digital media across brands and platforms by offering a flexible embedded layer of software that can span speakers, screens and smart devices in homes and offices. While continuing to serve premium car infotainment for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, this move marks what Cinemo describes as its most significant growth initiative to date.

Richard Lesser, CEO of Cinemo, said the company is “leveraging our core strengths and proven success in automotive to a new vision – delivering premium digital experiences to homes and offices, and in other markets.”
For the first wave, Cinemo plans to focus on audio-speakers as the supported product category, for both consumer and commercial use. The firm believes that by enabling content to fluidly move across devices, brands and contexts, it can help democratise high-quality media experiences far beyond the vehicle. For a software company whose DNA has been deeply embedded in the automotive domain, this signals a notable shift — and one that underscores how the boundaries between in-car, in-home and in-office media are blurring.
