Seeing Machines introduces “attention-sharing” distraction-detection for commercial fleets
Press Release, 17 November 2025
Australian tech firm Seeing Machines has launched a groundbreaking feature called “attention sharing” in its aftermarket safety system, Guardian Generation 3, aimed at commercial fleets. The new capability goes beyond traditional driver-monitoring systems by measuring not just when a driver looks away from the road, but how much cumulative time their eyes spend off the driving task — for example, multiple short glances at a phone or cabin display that add up to a serious risk.
Unlike older systems that typically trigger alerts when the driver’s gaze is off-road for a prolonged period, this feature tracks head and eye pose continuously and triggers warnings if drivers log a set total of off-road glance time (for instance, 10 seconds within a rolling 30-second window). Such innovation gives fleet operators real-time visibility into subtle distraction behaviours — the kind of “micro-glances” that may go unnoticed yet build risk over time. According to the company’s CEO Paul McGlone, “Distraction isn’t always obvious … this new feature goes further – it identifies the repeated, split-second glances that, when added up, can be just as dangerous.”
The feature is now available on all new Guardian Gen 3 units and can be rolled out via over-the-air updates to existing installations. With global statistics showing that frequent brief glances away from the road contribute significantly to crash risk, this move positions Seeing Machines as a leader in the commercial-fleet safety space, offering fleets an automotive-grade system to detect distraction earlier and intervene before incidents occur.
