Scania expands real world tests of its electric & hydrogen trucks

Press Release, 14 November 2025

Scania is advancing its Pilot Partner programme, through which it is testing both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell trucks with select customers. At a recent event in Bern, Switzerland, Scania showcased a test truck developed with Asko Norge AS a leading logistics player in Norway—that uses a combined electric and hydrogen powertrain enabling ranges of up to 1,000 km on a single refuelling, emitting only water vapour.

Although direct electrification via battery-powered trucks remains Scania’s primary strategy, these hydrogen trials play a strategic role in understanding what alternative technologies can offer. By placing these advanced vehicles in real operational conditions—urban distribution, regional haulage and long-distance routes—Scania and its customers are jointly gathering insights into performance, cost-effectiveness, and practical fit for different logistics applications. Launched in 2021, the Pilot Partner initiative is designed as a hands-on innovation platform where Scania collaborates deeply with customers to validate technologies in live environments. As the transportation sector seeks diverse decarbonisation pathways, Scania’s dual-track approach underscores the need to test multiple energy carriers and powertrains—not just to support today’s battery-electric rollout, but to prepare for the full spectrum of future mobility.
