Teradar has officially launched what it claims to be the world’s first terahertz vision sensor, marking a major leap in vehicle perception technology. This new solid-state sensor operates in the terahertz band of the electromagnetic spectrum—offering up to 20 times the resolution of today’s automotive radar and delivering high-definition imaging even in challenging weather like fog, rain, or snow. Designed for cars, trucks, and autonomous vehicles alike, Teradar’s chip architecture is tailor-made for high-volume production and integration into ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and full autonomy platforms (Levels L3 to L5).
With global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers already collaborating with Teradar, the company plans to enter vehicle production programs by around 2028.By offering a unified sensing solution that surpasses the limitations of radar and lidar—such as poor resolution or weather vulnerability—this technology could play a pivotal role in reducing vehicle-related accidents and enabling safer, smarter mobility at scale.
