United Micro Technology & CEVA launch 5G RedCap platform to boost connected vehicles
Press Release, 13 November 2025
United Micro Technology (UMT) and CEVA, Inc. have announced the rollout of the HyperMotion 5G RedCap Automotive IoT Platform, a collaboration designed to accelerate vehicle connectivity in tomorrow’s cars. The new platform combines UMT’s 5G RedCap SoC with CEVA’s PentaG Lite 5G modem IP and DSP technology, delivering a ready-to-deploy solution optimized for automotive telematics control units (T-Box) and C-V2X vehicle-to-everything applications.
By focusing on 5G RedCap — a cost-efficient variant of full 5G networking — the partnership aims to bring high-quality connectivity into mass-market vehicles without the premium costs associated with full 5G NR implementations. Key features of the HyperMotion platform include support for automotive-grade standards (AEC-Q100 Grade 2), emergency-call (eCall/NG-eCall) capability, time-sensitive networking (TSN), and hardware-accelerated network offloading — all of which help meet stringent reliability and security requirements in automotive environments. According to industry analysts, RedCap-based connectivity is projected to exceed 700 million global connections by 2030, with the automotive segment poised for rapid adoption.
