OPPO, the global smart-device maker, has struck a pivotal worldwide licensing deal with a prominent Chinese automotive manufacturer, granting access to OPPO’s cellular Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). This move enables the automaker to integrate OPPO’s patented cellular technologies into its connected-vehicle systems, bolstering in-car communication, global connectivity reach and user experience as the OEM expands into international markets.
According to Vincent Lin, OPPO’s Head of Patent Licensing, the agreement builds on OPPO’s recent partnership with Volkswagen Group and underscores the company’s reputation in cellular innovation and its commitment to a sustainable IP ecosystem. OPPO’s cellular-SEP portfolio already spans over 40 countries and regions, where the firm is ranked among the top globally in 5G patent strength. With over 117,000 patent applications filed and 65,000+ granted to date, OPPO is extending its IP influence beyond smartphones into the automotive mobility landscape.
