HARMAN pumps ₹345 crore into expansion of Pune plant for connected vehicle electronics

HARMAN International — the automotive electronics arm of Samsung Electronics — has announced a significant fresh investment of ₹345 crore (approx. US $42 million) to expand its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The investment forms part of its ongoing commitment to build India into a global hub for connected-car, infotainment and telematics manufacturing.

The expansion will raise the plant’s production capacity by around 50%, enabling annual output of up to 4 million car-audio components, 1.4 million infotainment units, and 0.8 million telematics control units (TCUs) by 2027. The immediate spend of ₹45 crore will add more than 71,500 sq ft of built-up area, including 45,000 sq ft of new production floor and four new SMT (surface-mount technology) lines. Over the next three years an additional ₹300 crore will support advanced telematics, 4G/5G TCUs and connectivity systems.

HARMAN’s Pune facility currently serves leading Indian OEMs including Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra as well as export markets in Europe and North America. With this investment, HARMAN will deepen its role in India’s “Make-in-India for the World” strategy and create around 300 new jobs in the region.

Beyond capacity growth, the expansion underscores HARMAN’s focus on sustainable manufacturing. The Pune plant already generates over 317,000 kWh from solar installations and is targeting 100% renewable electricity use by 2030. In sum, this move signals a strong vote of confidence in India’s talent, infrastructure and manufacturing ecosystem — and places HARMAN at the heart of the next wave in automotive connectivity.
