ATEK Access Technologies has announced the launch of its Datakey Mini-Bar series — the world’s smallest Crypto Ignition Key (CIK) portable memory system — setting a new benchmark in secure, rugged, and compact data protection technology. Now available for sampling and orders, the Mini-Bar continues ATEK’s legacy of advancing cryptographic memory devices that started back in 1986.
Designed for next-generation cryptographic and embedded systems, the Mini-Bar series delivers the same durability and military-grade performance as its predecessor, the Datakey Bar series, but in a significantly smaller form factor — over 60% more compact. Measuring just 21 mm by 15 mm, it is only slightly larger than a microSD card, yet it meets MIL-STD-810 environmental standards, ensuring resilience in harsh tactical and industrial environments.
The Mini-Bar tokens come in 16 Kbit and 256 Kbit serial EEPROM versions, compatible with both SPI and I2C interfaces. ATEK also plans to introduce versions featuring Microchip’s CryptoAuthentication™ secure memory ICs soon. For OEMs seeking tailored solutions, custom configurations using customer-specified ICs will also be available.
The product’s innovative corner-mountable receptacle design — available in two configurations (MBRHN and MBRFN) — allows manufacturers to integrate the system efficiently, reducing both internal enclosure volume and front panel space. Both receptacle types can achieve an IP67 seal when properly installed, making them suitable for demanding mobile, military, and embedded applications.
Paul Plitzuweit, Senior Product Manager for the Datakey line, described the Mini-Bar as a “revolutionary leap in size reduction and versatility,” noting that while ideal for cryptographic devices, it can also serve broader embedded system applications such as secure data transfer and access control.
