Blue Energy Motors unveils heavy-duty EV truck
News, 20 October 2025
Indian commercial-vehicle startup Blue Energy Motors has unveiled a game-changer in freight mobility: a heavy-duty electric truck equipped with rapid battery-swapping technology, launched alongside the inauguration of the country’s first designated “electric corridor” between Mumbai and Pune. At a ceremony in Pune’s Chakan facility, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis formally marked the partnership, which also includes a ₹3,500 crore investment plan for a new manufacturing unit with capacity for 30,000 trucks.
The novel truck boasts a 55-tonne payload and claims to offer “unlimited range” through its battery-swap model — trucks can swap batteries in about 2-5 minutes and avoid long charging downtime, a major hurdle in heavy-duty EV adoption. Blue Energy is launching an Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) business model where fleet operators pay for energy or swap services rather than owning the batteries upfront, helping lower total cost-of-ownership compared with legacy diesel trucks. The Mumbai–Pune corridor is designed as the first leg of India’s roadmap to electrify key freight routes over the next three years. Fadnavis noted that this infrastructure push positions Maharashtra as a leader in sustainable logistics innovation and aligns with the nation’s broader net-zero ambitions.
In essence, Blue Energy is betting that by combining new truck hardware, swap-station infrastructure and dedicated electric freight highways, it can accelerate heavy-duty EV adoption in India and reshape the logistics landscape.
