Maruti Suzuki to set up 10 automated driving test tracks across Tamil Nadu to boost road safety
Press Release, 15 October 2025
Maruti Suzuki India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Transport Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu to establish 10 Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across the state. This initiative aims to bring greater transparency, standardization, and efficiency to the driving license testing process through the use of advanced digital technologies.

The new ADTTs will be set up in Marthandam, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore (Central), Madurai (North), Tuticorin, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, Tiruvannamalai, Sivagangai, and Trichy (West)—locations identified by the Transport Department based on license issuance volume and urban connectivity. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Thiru S.S. Sivasankar, Minister for Transport and Electricity, and Thiru Dheeraj Kumar, IAS, Home Secretary. The MoA was signed by Tmt. R. Gajalakshmi, IAS, Transport and Road Safety Commissioner, and Mr. Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President, CSR, Maruti Suzuki.

These ADTTs will employ video analytics, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), and Harnessing Automobiles for Safety (HAMS) technologies to ensure fully automated and objective license testing, eliminating human bias and ensuring adherence to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. The system evaluates driving skills through sensor-based tracking and digital assessment, ensuring only qualified applicants are granted licenses.
Commending the collaboration, Minister S.S. Sivasankar said the initiative will reinforce disciplined driving and strengthen Tamil Nadu’s road safety framework. Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, highlighted that the project represents the company’s continued commitment to road safety through its “5Es” approach—Education, Evaluation, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Care.
Maruti Suzuki has already set up 45 ADTTs across India and recently partnered with the Rajasthan government to establish 21 more. With Tamil Nadu’s addition, the company’s total will rise to 76 automated test tracks nationwide. Beyond this, Maruti Suzuki operates 8 Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs) and 23 Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKCs) across India, underlining its mission to create safer and more responsible road users.
