KULR unveils next gen Battery Management System to boost safety and reliability

KULR Technology has introduced a new battery management system, dubbed kBMS, designed to raise the bar on reliability, safety and energy efficiency in mission-critical power systems. The system comes in two versions: one tailored for defense and ground applications, and another built for spacecraft. The space variant can be deployed either using commercial chipsets housed in radiation-protected enclosures or by using fully radiation-tolerant components, allowing customers to balance cost with performance.

KULR’s design employs an analog architecture with radiation-tolerant integration, enabling redundancy and fault tolerance — features that help reduce the risk of failure under extreme conditions. Lower-impedance MOSFETs are used to trim power loss and thermal stress, while an isolated communication interface protects connected systems from voltage spikes. One standout aspect: unlike many BMS units that become obsolete when calibration drifts, the kBMS can be recalibrated in the field to restore accuracy.

KULR sees the kBMS as a natural expansion beyond its existing thermal management and energy storage businesses. The system is already available for design and qualification programs, with the aim of accelerating adoption in space, defense and other sectors where power systems must operate reliably, safely and continuously.
