Mercedes-Benz takes stake in Geely’s Qianli to speed up smart vehicle push in China
News, 26 September 2025
Mercedes-Benz is deepening its commitment to “intelligentization” in China by acquiring a minority stake in Chongqing Qianli Technology, an autonomous-driving systems company backed by Geely. The investment is part of a broader strategy to boost Mercedes’ software and local tech capabilities amid intensifying competition from fast-moving Chinese and EV brands.
Qianli’s technology is expected to support Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming models in China, helping the automaker better localize its R&D and product development. Sources indicate the deal may be formally announced soon. With the move, Mercedes is further aligning with the trend of German and other foreign automakers turning to local tech partners—both to meet regulatory demands and consumer expectations in China.
