Qualcomm and BMW roll out new automated driving system

News, 5 September 2025

Qualcomm has partnered with BMW to introduce the Snapdragon Ride Pilot, an advanced automated driving system aimed at enhancing competition in the autonomous mobility sector.

The system, debuting in the BMW iX3, will enable hands-free driving on highways, automatic lane changes, and smart parking functions. While not full autonomy (Level 5), it represents an important step forward in accessible automation. The system has already been validated for operation in over 60 countries, with expansion planned to more than 100 by 2026.

For Qualcomm, this launch is central to its automotive growth ambitions. The chipmaker projects $8 billion in annual automotive revenue by 2029, a leap driven by rising demand for vehicle intelligence, telematics, and self-driving platforms. Industry rivals such as NVIDIA and Mobileye are also pursuing similar strategies, setting the stage for fierce competition in the ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) market.

Experts note that partnerships between chipmakers and automakers are vital in bringing autonomous capabilities to scale. BMW’s adoption of Snapdragon Ride Pilot could accelerate wider consumer acceptance of semi-autonomous features, while boosting Qualcomm’s presence in the automotive semiconductor market.
