Nanointech and Vocai join forces on AI-driven battery fire prevention

News, 21 August 2025

South Korea’s Nanointech has teamed up with Israel’s Vocai to co-develop a smart battery pack equipped with AI-powered fire prevention—designed for electric bus, low-speed electric vehicles (LSEVs), and energy storage systems (ESS).

Vocai brings its ED-10A product series—built around molecular-level gas sensors paired with AI-based data analysis—capable of detecting early signs of battery degradation, thermal runaway, and faults well ahead of traditional fire-prevention systems. Nanointech contributes its expertise in smart battery pack manufacturing and battery management systems (BMS), especially for applications like electric buses and ESS.

This joint venture has also secured financial backing through South Korea’s Lighthouse program under the Korea-Israel Industrial R&D Foundation, receiving about $4.75 million over 30 months to accelerate development and commercialization. The companies are aiming for global deployment—including Korea, the U.S., Europe, and South America—beginning as early as 2026.

Nanointech CEO Byung-Ho Park emphasized that this partnership positions his firm at the forefront of global battery safety and performance standards, blending sensor, BMS, and manufacturing prowess. Vocai CEO Shai Gepshtein echoed the sentiment, calling the venture a “pivotal moment” for scaling advanced battery safety and analytics.
