Aptiv opens software & safety engineering hub in Chennai
News, 19 August 2025
Aptiv has officially launched a state-of-the-art Software, Advanced Safety & User Experience (AS&UX) Technical Centre in Chennai—its fourth in India. Sprawling over 34,000 sq ft and set to accommodate up to 500 engineers by 2026, this hub is aimed at driving vehicle software innovation tailored for India.
Aptiv’s newest engineering hub marks a major step in its mission to localize advanced automotive technologies. Equipped with modern labs and test infrastructure, the centre will accelerate development in AI, machine learning, safety-critical systems, advanced driver assistance (ADAS), in-cabin sensing, and software-defined infotainment platforms.

The facility was inaugurated by Aptiv’s EVP of Software, AS&UX, Javed Khan, alongside R. Velusamy from Mahindra & Mahindra. They emphasized how this expansion hones in on “In India, For India” innovation, leveraging domestic engineering talent while maintaining world-class standards.
Designed to serve both local OEMs and potentially expand into Southeast Asia, this centre is part of Aptiv’s larger US$ 60 million investment in India, which includes manufacturing and engineering capacity expansion. The new hub will support Aptiv’s global cloud-native platform, integrating hardware, software, and edge tech from partners like Wind River.
With India already hosting over 13,000 Aptiv employees across eight manufacturing sites and four tech centers, the new Chennai facility further cements the country as a strategic hub for the company’s software-led mobility future.
