Harman may sell its Indian DTS arm

News, 15 August 2025

Warburg Pincus and Wipro Technologies are in advanced discussions to buy Harman’s Indian digital transformation solutions (DTS) business for roughly $500 million. Deutsche Bank is advising Harman a Samsung Electronics subsidiary though none of the parties have yet confirmed the deal.

Harman, known worldwide for its JBL, Harman Kardon and Infinity audio brands, develops connected-car infotainment systems, consumer audio-visual products and enterprise automation solutions. Since entering India in 2008, it has grown to more than 9,000 employees across eight cities and co-locates its India Development Centre within Wipro’s Bangalore and Chennai campuses.

Although automotive remains its core revenue driver, the DTS unit also serves healthcare, telecom and industrial clients offering services from clinical-trial support and regulatory-compliance for life-sciences firms to building end-to-end industrial IoT ecosystems.

Wipro has bolstered its digital portfolio with several recent deals:

  • In 2024, acquiring insurance-tech specialist Aggne Global and IT consultancy Applied Value Technologies, plus taking a 27% stake in automotive-software platform SDVerse
  • In 2022, purchasing SAP consultancy Rizing for $540 million
  • In 2021, completing its largest deal by buying global consultancy Capco for $1.45 billion

Warburg Pincus brings deep expertise in outsourcing and digital services, having sold its former portfolio company Encora to Advent International in 2021 and currently backing Perfios, a BFSI-focused SaaS provider active in 18 countries.
