Qualcomm localising module production in India
Press Release, 14 August 2025
Qualcomm is strategically localizing its automotive module production in India, marking a significant shift in its global manufacturing strategy. This move involves actively supporting its Tier-1 ecosystem partners in establishing manufacturing operations within the country, aiming to bolster India’s role in the automotive supply chain.
Typically, these modules have been manufactured in Taiwan, China, or Korea, but Qualcomm is now making substantial investments to localize production in India. This initiative aligns with the “Make in India” vision and is expected to create new opportunities within Qualcomm’s supply chain.
The company’s focus is on designing chipsets for the automotive sector, especially for electric vehicles (EVs), and it has already partnered with major Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and Hyundai. Qualcomm offers its Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform, which provides solutions for telematics, infotainment, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). By 2026, approximately a dozen vehicles are projected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite System on Chip (SoC).
Nakul Duggal, Group General Manager for Automotive, Industrial, and Embedded IoT at Qualcomm Technologies, highlighted the growing demand for products tailored to the Indian market, emphasizing that local design and manufacturing can provide a competitive edge. This localization effort is also expected to contribute significantly to Qualcomm’s automotive segment revenue, which currently accounts for about 10% of its global revenue (approximately $3.6 billion to $3.8 billion), with a target to double this to around $8 billion by 2029.
