Geely launches 11 new satellites into orbit to boost global smart mobility

News, 13 August 2025

Geely Holding’s aerospace arm, Geespace, has successfully launched 11 low Earth orbit satellites on August 9, 2025, marking a major leap toward building its integrated “space-earth” mobility ecosystem. This latest deployment grows its satellite constellation to 41 units, accelerating progress toward comprehensive global IoT coverage.

In a strategic move blending automotive innovation with space tech, Geespace, Geely’s commercial aerospace subsidiary, has launched an impressive 11 additional satellites aboard a Smart Dragon-3 rocket from an offshore platform near Rizhao. This marks the fourth orbital plane deployment for the “Geely Future Mobility Constellation” (GEESATCOM), elevating its fleet to 41 functioning satellites in low Earth orbit.

This ongoing project aims to deliver near-global Internet of Things connectivity, specifically targeting smart mobility applications including connected and autonomous vehiclesmaritime operationsurban air mobility, and emergency response systems. Geely’s current infrastructure supports high-precision satellite IoT communications with nearly 99.2% success rates and 99.97% uptime across trials in over 20 countries, spanning the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Geespace is pushing full speed toward achieving its Phase 1 goal of 72 satellites by the end of 2025, with plans to scale to 64 operational units within the next two months. Ultimately, Phase 2 anticipates a total of 240 satellites, enabling centimeter-level precision positioning for advanced mobility systems.

Already, Geely vehicles—from Zeekr and Lynk & Co to Farizon’s commercial fleets—are equipped with mass-produced satellite communication chips and positioning modules, embedding this satellite network into the fabric of intelligent vehicle operation.

Geespace’s satellite rollout positions Geely at the leading edge of space-enabled automotive evolution. It transforms vehicles from traditional transport to integrated smart platforms, unlocking new dimensions in safety, autonomy, and connectivity. Leveraging its own constellation gives Geely a strategic advantage—an entirely self-reliant, end-to-end satellite IoT system fueling future vehicle intelligence.
