JLR and ev.energy partner for V2G pilot project in UK

News, 18 July 2025
JLR is partnering with the smart EV charging platform ev.energy for a pilot program in United Kingdom to integrate ev.energy’s software with Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles.
This system links directly to Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicle platform, enabling optimized charging schedules that benefit the electrical grid and prioritize the use of renewable energy sources.
After the pilot, JLR plans to expand this solution to clients in the UK, US, and EU.
This initiative builds on ev.energy’s experience, having worked with more than 55 utilities worldwide to optimize charging schedules. Their technology helps maximize the use of renewables and reduces strain on the grid during peak periods.
Recent results highlight the benefits:
– In the UK, smart charging saved drivers an average of £166 and removed 489 tonnes of CO2e in the 12 months to May 31, 2025—the equivalent energy use of 1,449 homes for a year.
– From midnight to 6 AM, overnight charging in California more than doubled, while nearly half of all daytime charging (up to 45%) was moved to off-peak hours, coinciding with abundant solar energy availability.
This collaboration follows a recent investment in ev.energy by InMotion Ventures, JLR’s corporate venture capital arm, as part of JLR’s Innovation Strategy. The strategy focuses on developing cutting-edge technologies in partnership with innovative companies.
JLR’s innovation initiatives are already delivering real-world impact, including the joint development of portable Battery Energy Storage Systems with Allye Energy, utilizing second-life PHEV batteries. JLR is further teaming up with Cesium Astro, another company backed by InMotion Ventures, to advance in-vehicle connectivity solutions for Software Defined Vehicles.
