SK On achieves cybersecurity certification for its Battery Management System
News
SK On, a South Korean battery manufacturer, has achieved a significant industry first by securing both Cybersecurity Assessment (CSA) and Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) Level 3 certifications for its Battery Management System (BMS) from the internationally recognized testing and certification body, TÜV Rheinland.
Specifically, the FSMS Level 3 certification attests to the BMS’s adherence to ISO 26262, the internationally recognized standard for functional safety in automotive electrical and electronic systems. This builds upon SK On’s earlier achievement in May, when it obtained CSMS Level 3 certification, showcasing its strong proficiency in handling cybersecurity risks associated with automotive software and electronic components.
With these certifications, SK On is well-positioned to supply its certified BMS to European automakers, helping them meet the stringent cybersecurity standards mandated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) Regulation No. 155. This regulation, in effect since 2021, requires new vehicles with electronic control units to comply with strict cybersecurity measures across 56 member countries spanning Europe, North America, and Asia. This achievement underscores SK On’s commitment to providing secure and reliable battery solutions to the global automotive industry.
