BYD unveils L4 autonomous parking in China
News, 10 July 2025
BYD announced its advanced Level 4 (L4) autonomous parking feature for its God’s Eye Advanced Driver-Assistance System (ADAS). BYD is also pledging full liability for any losses resulting from the use of its system in parking scenarios—a move that underscores its confidence in the technology and marks a major industry milestone.
Level 4 Autonomy, Enhanced Features
The L4-capable God’s Eye ADAS enables vehicles to perform parking maneuvers entirely without human intervention, provided certain conditions are met. This leap in autonomy allows qualified BYD vehicles to park themselves, adhering to global industry standards for hands-free operation. The L4 parking system will soon roll out via an over-the-air (OTA) update for vehicles with God’s Eye B and C, bringing advanced parking scenarios and a new three-speed parking feature.
Full Coverage, No Impact on Insurance Premiums
What truly sets BYD apart is its unprecedented liability commitment. In the event of an incident caused by ADAS during parking—be it a malfunction or an algorithmic error—BYD will shoulder all financial responsibility. This includes repair costs, compensation for third-party property damage, and personal injury, so long as legal proceedings confirm system fault. Drivers involved in such incidents can contact BYD directly for claims, bypassing their insurance providers entirely; thus, their future premiums remain unaffected.
Company Statement and User-Centric Approach
“By standing entirely behind our God’s Eye ADAS, we’re sending a clear message about our confidence in our technology and our commitment to consumer protection,” BYD said in a press release. This transparency aims to build trust, encourage adoption of autonomous features, and reduce barriers related to the fear of potential liability.
Expanding Reach and Democratizing Technology
BYD’s track record reflects its mission to democratize advanced automotive technology. God’s Eye ADAS, introduced in February 2025, is already available on entry-level models, including the BYD Seagull, priced from only 69,800 yuan (approximately $9,700). As of July 7th, more than one million BYD vehicles are equipped with God’s Eye, making high-level driver assistance broadly accessible.
The Largest OTA Update Yet
The upcoming OTA update—described as the most significant in God’s Eye’s history—won’t just boost parking capabilities; it promises enhanced safety features and improved driving performance overall.
With this dual announcement of a cutting-edge autonomous parking feature and an industry-leading liability policy, BYD cements its status as a technological frontrunner and champion of customer confidence in China’s automotive landscape. As self-driving systems gain traction, BYD’s proactive, user-friendly approach could set a new standard for automakers worldwide.
