Scaler Innovation and Gahan AI collaborate on autonomous navigation systems for mining industry

News, 24 May 2025

Scaler Innovation Lab has formed a partnership with Gahan AI, a deep-tech company based in Bengaluru, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly create autonomous navigation systems. The goal is to enhance the safety and efficiency of vehicles used in the mining sector. This collaboration leverages Scaler’s educational network, comprising both engineering and business students, and Gahan AI’s specialized knowledge in autonomous mobility and artificial intelligence.

The primary focus of this collaboration is to engineer navigation systems designed for challenging, unmapped terrains where conventional, map-dependent systems are inadequate. These solutions are intended for application in mining operations across India and around the world, particularly in the face of adverse weather conditions.

Students from Scaler’s School of Technology and School of Business will actively engage in research and development initiatives, guided by Gahan AI’s expert team. Engineering students will focus on building AI models capable of making real-time decisions in unpredictable settings. Meanwhile, business students will concentrate on developing effective commercialization strategies, covering aspects such as pricing structures, go-to-market strategies, and operational frameworks.

This partnership seeks to address significant safety issues prevalent in the mining industry. According to statistics from India’s Directorate General of Mines Safety, approximately 40% of mining-related fatalities stem from incidents involving haulage. Furthermore, global data from the International Council on Mining and Metals indicates that over 70% of deadly surface mining accidents involve vehicle interactions in areas lacking proper mapping. Gahan AI’s objective is to lower these risks by creating technology that enables vehicles to operate safely, even without pre-existing map data.

Gahan AI will host exclusive workshops and hackathons for Scaler students, and selected participants will be offered valuable internship and mentorship opportunities within the company’s key operational areas. Additionally, the Scaler Innovation Lab’s student-led firms will receive assistance from Gahan’s leadership team.

Gahan AI will set up shop in the Scaler Innovation Lab as part of this partnership, providing advice to startups in their early stages. By exposing students to real-world issues in quickly changing technology areas, this approach emphasizes experiential learning.

Founded in 2022, Gahan AI focuses on developing autonomous solutions for unstructured and dangerous situations, such as mining and military. Its technological portfolio includes long-range teleoperation tools, sensor fusion systems, and AI-driven applications. The business has been recognized by NASSCOM and AICRA and is a part of NVIDIA’s Inception program.

Founded in 2019, Scaler provides upskilling programs and technological education through platforms such as Scaler School of Business, Scaler Academy, and Scaler Neovarsity. It works with more than 1,000 businesses globally and provides a range of talent solutions, including undergraduate, graduate, and business-to-business services. Investors including Tiger Global, Lightrock India, and Peak XV Partners provide financial support for Scaler.
