Mobis India opens EV battery assembly facility
Mobis India, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor India, has inaugurated its EV Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant in Sriperumbudur. The plant, which occupies 8.15 acres next to Hyundai Motor’s car factory, was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, TRB Rajaa.
The plant is initially set to produce 36,000 units per year to keep up with the increasing demand for electric vehicles. This capacity can quickly be increased to 75,000 units.
The facility will assemble battery systems for electric vehicles in India. The Hyundai Creta Electric will be the first electric car to use battery packs produced at this plant. Mobis India aims to support Hyundai’s focus on local EV production, representing a significant advancement in India’s electric mobility efforts.
