Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand in a meeting at Barcelona with Dusan Lichardus, CEO of Tesla Group A.S., Czechoslovakia, explored the possibility of establishing a GIGA factory in the mineral-rich state of Jharkhand.
Lichardus and Soren met last Monday in Barcelona to talk about the project’s future. The state government claimed in a statement on Tuesday that key bureaucrats, including chief secretary Alka Tiwari and industries secretary Arava Rajkamal, were present at the meeting along with the chief minister.
Before Tesla could come and invest in building an EV battery giga-factory, the state of Jharkhand has to come to the forefront in terms of EV policy and vibrant ecosystem for EV adoption. If one compares with Delhi, Jharkhand’s EV ecosystem is still in a nascent stage. The scale of incentives offered in Delhi, coupled with a more mature and widespread charging network, provides a stronger impetus for consumers to switch to EVs. While Jharkhand has laid the groundwork with its EV policy, but it needs to accelerate implementation, enhance awareness, and significantly scale up its charging infrastructure.
