Industry requests for lower GST on EV batteries and charging services
India needs to look at taxation on batteries and EV charging services, says Modi's adviser.
According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s adviser Tarun Kapoor, India might look into the taxes related to batteries and electric vehicle charging services. He said that the appropriate authorities have been notified of tax concerns about four-wheeler batteries and charging stations.
The industry had voiced its concerns at recently held FICCI meet, that to increase affordability, GST should be reduced on EV batteries and charging services. FICCI Electric Vehicle Committee Chair, Sulajja Firodia Motwani said that currently the GST on charging services is 18 per cent which should be brought down to 5 per cent. She also said that the GST on batteries should also be lowered to 5%.
Anish Shah, the president of the FICCI and the MD and CEO of the Mahindra Group, stated that “much work is needed” because the current penetration rate of electric four-wheelers in India is 1.5%.
