Mainland China tech giant Baidu applies to launch autonomous vehicle trials in Hong Kong

Baidu has submitted an application to start testing autonomous vehicles (AVs) at the airport in Hong Kong. The autonomous vehicle will have a backup operator will be in the vehicle to take over if needed.
Baidu Apollo International Limited, has presented the proposal and said it is hopeful of about testing to begin before end of the year 2024. Further, it is anticipated that the test route will begin at the airport parking lot, travel via Third Sky Street, Sky City, and Scenic Road, and then end up back at the parking lot.
Local administrative officials are positive about the autonomous taxis, since it may improve local transportation in Hong Kong.
