24M Technologies unveils 1,000 miles EV battery
US company unveils EV battery tech that could reach 1,000 miles on single charge — here's how it could transform the auto industry

According to Fast Company, a new electric vehicle battery developed by a Massachusetts-based company has the potential to deliver 1,000 miles of range between charges. After separating from MIT in 2015, 24M Technologies integrated a number of pre-existing technologies to produce a battery that has a significantly greater range than anything else available on the US market.
In place of lithium-ion, 24M’s batteries employ more energy-dense lithium metal. It appears that a unique separator that aids in fire prevention has helped to lessen those safety concerns.
Additionally, the semisolid electrolyte used in the batteries eliminates the need for materials like plastic, copper, and aluminum. EVs with 1,000-mile ranges won’t be available in the US for at least a few years because automakers haven’t tested the batteries. But that isn’t the case in China, where a plug-in hybrid is reportedly available for 1,300 miles on a single charge (and for a fraction of the price of EVs in the States).
Despite being less of a problem than many people think, “range anxiety,” or the fear of being left in an electric car without access to a charging station, still influences people’s decisions to purchase or not purchase an electric vehicle.
