Date: March 29, 2024. — HD Hyundai Infracore (HDI), a South Korean manufacturer of construction equipment, engines, and now electric vehicle batteries, has announced the upcoming debut of a new 35 kWh lithium phosphate battery pack designed to power the next generation of electrified commercial equipment. This innovative battery pack is expected to be unveiled at Intermat 2024 in Paris-Nord Villepinte next month.
The development of this battery pack began when Infracore was still under the Doosan brand, and it features a bespoke battery management system (BMS), thermal protection systems, and a flexible design architecture. This allows for the production of batteries with varying voltages and capacities. Using different numbers of standardized cylindrical nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery cells achieves this.
The new battery pack is a significant step up from the current offerings by HD Hyundai, which include LFP battery packs in 5.8, 8.8, and 11.7 kWh power capacities. The company expects the 35 kWh pack to provide sufficient power to operate commercial trucks, signaling a significant advancement in its electric vehicle (EV) technology.
HD Hyundai Infracore has also confirmed a partnership with Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle to supply battery packs for their medium-duty electric trucks, aiming to expand Korea’s electric commercial offerings. The collaboration is part of a broader strategy to pioneer the EV market with proprietary battery pack technology. It also aims to extend the supplier base to emerging countries and other regions.
This move aligns with market projections that anticipate the global electric commercial vehicle market to grow significantly by 2030. This new LFP battery pack from HDI signifies a promising step towards wider adoption of electric technology in the commercial vehicle industry.
