Date: August 24, 2023. — General Motors (GM) has been granted official approval to conduct autonomous driving road tests in Shanghai, China.
The announcement comes after months of evaluation and discussion between General Motors and Chinese regulatory authorities. The approval signifies a vote of confidence in GM’s autonomous driving technology, emphasizing its safety and reliability standards.
As part of the road test program, General Motors will deploy a fleet of autonomous vehicles on the streets of Shanghai. The tests aim to demonstrate the capability of GM’s self-driving technology to navigate through challenging scenarios. Furthermore, this action ensures the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles on the road.
GM has built its autonomous driving technology on top of advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and sophisticated algorithms. This will speed up the creation and supply of specialized solutions for Chinese users.
These road testing lessons learned will help GM in China advance its high-level driver assistance technology. The application scenarios will include both more difficult urban roadways and more regulated areas like motorways.
