Google maps unveils android auto redesign
Date: July 31, 2023 — Google Maps has unveiled a major redesign for Android Auto. It is offering users a more intuitive and seamless navigation experience. The update aims to enhance safety, simplicity, and ease of use for drivers while on the road.
With this new layout, the Google Maps app has a sidebar that houses all of the controls. Before, you could interact with the map on the right side to see these controls. The new modification, however, continuously displays these settings in the sidebar. You can adjust the zoom, the map’s orientation, the directions spoken aloud function, and other settings. Notably, the sidebar appears when the app is visible on the screen rather than when the user is viewing the dashboard.
The redesign introduces enhanced integration with various in-car systems. It allows users to seamlessly switch between their vehicle’s dashboard display and their Android Auto interface. This ensures that drivers can effortlessly access essential apps and features while keeping their attention on the road.
For the sake of accessibility, Google Maps has also introduced improved compatibility with a wide range of Android Auto-enabled vehicles, making the redesign accessible to a larger user base.
Google’s commitment to safety remains a top priority in this update. By providing drivers with a more user-friendly experience, the company hopes to minimize distractions and contribute to safer journeys on the road.
With Google Maps v11.90, Android Auto v10 is compatible with this most recent Google Maps sidebar upgrade. Some users (through SmartDroid) have observed the change with Android Auto version 9.9 because this update is not coming with Android Auto. Drivers are encouraged to keep their apps up-to-date to take advantage of the latest enhancements and features.
With this new Android Auto redesign, Google Maps continues to set the standard for in-car navigation systems, reaffirming its position as one of the leading providers of location-based services in the tech industry.
Google Maps is developing another update in addition to the redesign for Android Auto.
