Urja Mobility begins its battery leasing service

News, 21 January 2025

Urja Mobility, an EV solutions startup, announced on Monday the start of its business-to-consumer battery leasing program, which will target e-rickshaw drivers in ten locations across the country.

According to the firm, the “Smart Opex Model” project gives drivers access to lithium-ion batteries, which have longer life cycles, require less maintenance, and have better thermal performance than conventional lead acid alternatives.

Agra, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Siliguri, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, and Puri are among the cities that are part of the first phase. These cities, according to Urja Mobility, have a high rate of EV adoption and substantial tourist traffic, allowing drivers to make the most use of their assets.

By lowering expensive upfront expenses into manageable monthly payments, the program seeks to alleviate the financial burden of battery ownership, according to the business.

Because of the leasing program’s flexible design, drivers can pay the lease value each month for a period of 12 to 24 months.

The motorist receives ownership of the battery at the conclusion of the term, giving them a dependable energy source for more than five years, the statement stated.

In order to guarantee smooth operations, Urja Mobility stated that it has set up service centers in each of these cities. To ensure vehicle uptime for at least 26 days a month, these centers will offer end-to-end support, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, according to the business.

Smart, technologically improved batteries with sophisticated battery management systems will also help drivers. This system ensures dependability and safety by using data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) to track battery health, anticipate possible problems, and maintain peak performance.
