Shri Piyush Goyal advocates for the coexistence of charging and battery swapping infrastructure

Speaking at Consultation Meeting called on 3 Jan’24, on “Development of Battery Charging and Swapping Infrastructure“, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal stressed the necessity of battery swapping facilities coexisting with charging infrastructure. According to him, EV adoption should be “a people’s movement,” driven by the development of charging infrastructure. He talked about future scenario where all gas/fuel pumps, CNG stations will have battery swapping and charging capabilities. This according to him would ensure that facilities are widely available without undue concentration in particular places. He also mentioned about vandalism of electric charging infrastructure which is plaguing the industry.

The Consultation Meeting on “Development of Battery Charging and Swapping Infrastructure” was jointly called by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which was attended by leading industry representatives from vehicle manufacturing, battery manufacturing, battery charging service providers and battery swapping companies.Senior representatives from the Ministry of Power, Environment, Road Transport and Highways, and Heavy Industry were also present in the meeting.

Stakeholders stressed the importance of accountability and the creation of clear norms by Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS).
