Vingroup eyes big EV, battery & clean-energy push in Telangana
Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup is signalling a fresh push into India’s green-mobility space, with the southern state of Telangana emerging as a key target. Recent discussions between Vingroup Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in New Delhi have laid the groundwork for possible large-scale investment in electric-vehicle (EV) manufacturing, lithium-ion battery production, and renewable-energy infrastructure in the state.
Vingroup’s interest covers several major pillars. Firstly, the company is exploring the establishment of an EV manufacturing facility in Telangana, tapping into the state’s evolving policy push and industrial ecosystem. Secondly, it is evaluating setting up battery-storage units, a critical backbone to power both vehicles and grid applications. And thirdly, the firm has expressed intent to invest in solar and wind projects, linking manufacturing and energy supply into one combined value chain. During the meeting, Vingroup also reviewed the proposed Bharath Future City initiative, signalling potential interest in housing part of its investment footprint within that development.
For Telangana, this could be transformational. The state government has aggressively been positioning itself to attract global green-mobility investment, and this development deepens that push. Local officials including the Special Chief Secretary for Industries and Commerce, and the Secretary for GoI Projects, were part of the discussions — underlining the seriousness of the engagement. If Vingroup moves ahead, job creation, technology transfer, manufacturing scale-up and renewable-energy deployment would all benefit from the initiative.
From Vingroup’s perspective, India presents a high-growth market for EVs, and establishing production capacity plus battery supply in a cost-competitive region makes strategic sense. Launching a fully-integrated EV-and-battery ecosystem gives the company leverage over supply chains, lowers cost exposure, and allows deeper alignment with India’s sustainability goals. The clean‐energy tie-in (solar and wind) also signals that Vingroup intends to link vehicle manufacturing with renewable power and storage — not just assembly.
The partnership is still exploratory, and formal agreements have not yet been finalised. But the invitation extended by Chief Minister Reddy to Vingroup to participate in the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025 (December 8–9) underscores the momentum and mutual interest.
