Uno Minda secures ECMS approval for camera module assembly
News, 18 November 2025
Uno Minda Limited has received formal approval under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) from the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) for its camera module assembly business. The sanction was handed over to director & CEO Vivek Jindal by the ministerial leadership, signalling a key step in boosting local manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports.
Under the ECMS, Uno Minda will deepen its value-addition in camera and vision technologies, a segment set to play a critical role in next-generation mobility, advanced electronics and safety systems. The scheme is designed to strengthen India’s electronics supply chain, enhance domestic manufacturing of components and integrate emerging sector manufacturers and MSMEs.
This approval positions Uno Minda to tap rising demand for vision-based systems—covering driver-assistance, cockpit electronics and vehicle connectivity—as automakers push toward smarter, safer and more connected mobility. The ECMS backing also underscores the government’s drive to achieve global competitiveness in electronics manufacturing, with broader approvals covering components like camera modules, multi-layer PCBs and optical transceivers across nine states.
For the auto-components sector, the move represents an accelerating trend: hardware is giving way to software-and-sensor-rich architectures, creating fresh opportunity for manufacturers that can scale vision-tech production domestically. Uno Minda’s approval affirms its readiness to participate meaningfully in that wave, while also aligning with India’s “Make in India & Make for the World” mantra in advanced electronics.
