UAE launches first commercial fleet of self-driving electric cargo trucks
Press Release, 9 October 2025
The UAE has marked a major milestone in smart mobility with the launch of its first-ever commercial fleet of autonomous electric trucks. The initiative, introduced in the Al Jazeera Al Hamra industrial zone, comes through a collaboration between Evocargo, a pioneer in autonomous transport systems, and RAK Ceramics, one of the world’s leading ceramics and sanitary ware manufacturers. This move signals the UAE’s growing leadership in sustainable logistics and advanced transportation technologies.

The newly deployed Evocargo N1 trucks are now operating daily, transporting ceramics and sanitary products across RAK Ceramics’ facilities. These fully electric, unmanned vehicles can travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge, showcasing both their endurance and readiness for real-world industrial use. Equipped with a fifth-generation autopilot system and AI-driven multi-sensor technology, the trucks use LIDARs, sonars, and cameras to interpret surroundings in real time — including traffic signs, pedestrian crossings, and road markings — while a robust four-layer safety system ensures reliable and secure operations.

According to Shaheem Musthafa, CEO of Evocargo Autonomous Logistic Services in the UAE, the launch demonstrates that “autonomous, zero-emission transport is no longer futuristic — it’s a viable solution for commercial operations.” Through Evocargo’s Robots-as-a-Service model, businesses can access these self-driving trucks via flexible subscriptions, eliminating the need for large upfront investments.

Beyond efficiency, sustainability is central to this project. By relying solely on electricity, the autonomous trucks help cut carbon emissions and advance RAK Ceramics’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. The company emphasized that integrating electric autonomous transport highlights its commitment to innovation and eco-friendly practices. The initiative not only enhances logistics efficiency but also aligns with the UAE’s vision for sustainable industrial growth, setting a strong example for the global logistics industry.
