TDB backs local EV charger maker Electrowaves with new funding
News, 1 December 2025
Electric-vehicle infrastructure in India just got a fresh push: the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the country’s science ministry, has approved financial support to Electrowaves Electronics to commercialize EV chargers that are designed and made entirely in India.
The funding covers both AC chargers (for home and public use) and high-power DC fast chargers — ranging from 30 kW up to 240 kW — capable of serving a wide range of electric vehicles. Electrowaves has developed a full Indian-made technology stack: power converter modules (15 kW and 30 kW), insulation-monitoring devices, communication controllers compliant with international protocols (DIN SPEC 70121, partial ISO 15118, OCPP 1.6J / 2.0.1), plus user interface and DC-charge control systems — all built in-house.
This move aligns with the government’s broader “Atmanirbhar Bharat / Make in India” push, aiming to reduce dependence on imported charging equipment and build a self-reliant clean-mobility infrastructure.
Why it matters: expanding locally manufactured EV chargers can dramatically accelerate charging-infrastructure rollout — from big cities to smaller towns. That helps drive EV adoption faster and makes daily EV usage more practical. Along the way, it strengthens domestic supply chains and supports India’s net-zero and sustainable-mobility ambitions.
This development signals a step-change: Indian-designed, Indian-manufactured charging solutions could soon power the next wave of electric mobility across the country.
