Tata Motors hydrogen bus to be tested on Jamshedpur roads

News, 24 January 2025

Tata Motors would soon be running hydrogen powered buses on Jamshedpur roads. These buses will be powered by hydrogen engine (hydrogen internal combustion engine, H2-ICE) produced at Tata Cummins Jamshedpur facility. The first Tata Cummins B6.7H hydrogen engine was rolled off the production line in March 2024. The engine is designed to be used in medium and heavy commercial vehicles.

The hydrogen engine (H2-ICE) manufactured at Tata Cummins is under partnership of Tata Motors and Cummins, which includes the production and marketing of Cummins’ hydrogen engines in India.

Since 2023, Tata Cummins Private Limited (TCPL) has been working on low and zero-emission propulsion technology through its subsidiary Green Energy Solutions (TCPL GEL). The primary aim of TCPL GES is to create innovative products that include hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines, fuel delivery systems, and battery electric powertrains, as well as fuel cell electric systems under the Accelera brand by Cummins. These technologies are tailored for both on-highway and off-highway applications and are intended for the domestic and international markets, thereby supporting global efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality
