South China city grants road test licenses for autonomous vehicles

In a significant move for autonomous vehicle development, Liuzhou, a city nestled in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, officially commenced its open road testing phase for self-driving vehicles.

This milestone was marked by the issuance of the inaugural batch of road test licenses. A total of 15 license plates were granted across the Guangxi region, specifically designated for the road testing of functional low-speed unmanned vehicles. These vehicles are anticipated to find primary applications in various scenarios, including express logistics and unmanned patrols.

To facilitate this advancement, Liuzhou City has allocated an impressive 50.3 kilometers of roadways for the public testing of intelligent vehicles. This dedication has resulted in the establishment of a multi-level testing and demonstration network, encompassing urban roads, expressways, and specialized testing environments. This comprehensive approach, spanning from research and development to design, closed-field and open-road testing, and ultimately application, signifies the city’s successful establishment of a closed-loop ecosystem within the intelligent connected vehicle industry. This development further underscores the robust core competitiveness of Liuzhou’s local vehicle assembly industry and its supporting enterprise clusters.
