Renault unveils concept vehicle Emblème, with 620 mile range
The newest concept car from the French automaker is only expected to emit 5.5 tons of CO2 over its lifetime, as opposed to the 55 tons that an average gasoline-powered vehicle emits.

The French automaker Renault unveiled the “Emblème,” its concept vehicle, as part of its goal to become carbon neutral globally by 2050. Emblème, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this year, combines electric and hybrid power with a full lifecycle approach to carbon reduction. According to Renault, the car emits 90% fewer greenhouse gases (CO2) over its lifetime than the typical modern car.
Additionally, “practical and effective combinations” in areas such as resources, materials, production, use, and end-of-life recovery are examined in the concept car.
Longer drives using hydrogen fuel cells
For low-carbon driving over any distance, the Emblème’s rear-mounted powertrain combines hydrogen and electricity. A 40kWh battery beneath the floor and a 2.8kg hydrogen fuel cell in the front power its 215hp motor. According to Ampere, the group’s EV wing, it can go more than 620 miles between charges.
The car functions similarly to a typical electric car during daily driving, with the battery being replenished via a standard charging outlet, rooftop solar panels, or regenerative braking.
To cut down on charging times, Emblème switches to the hydrogen fuel cell for longer journeys. The company adds that the dual-energy system combines the advantages of electric driving, such as smoothness, quiet operation, and instant acceleration, with quick hydrogen refueling and a longer range.
90% reduction in carbon emissions
In contrast, over the course of its life, the Renault Megane E-Tech electric emits 26.4 tons of CO2. Compared to a similar gasoline-powered model, like the Captur, which emits 55 tons of CO2, this is roughly half the emissions.
The goal of the Emblème project is to reduce this even more, aiming for a reduction of almost 90%, to just 5.5 tons from birth to death. The Emblème symbolizes the company’s dedication to using technological innovation to create a sustainable future, according to Luca de Meo, CEO of Ampere and the Renault Group.
