New phase of relationship introduces generative AI to the forefront of automotive innovation, setting a new benchmark for next generation in-vehicle technology that includes immersive multimedia features, optimized gaming, and advanced 3D graphics.
Press Release, 7 January 2025
At CES 2025, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. (PAS) and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced an expanded relationship aimed at redefining in-vehicle experiences. Building on their long-standing collaboration that began with early infotainment systems, the companies are expanding their work to utilize the latest addition to Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon® Digital Chassis™ solution, the Snapdragon® Cockpit Elite, to power PAS’s new Cockpit Domain Controllers (CDCs) and High-Performance Compute (HPC) systems. Leveraging the Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU, industry-leading Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU and the Qualcomm® Hexagon™ NPU for multimodal AI performance, this new phase of PAS’s and Qualcomm Technologies’ relationship brings advanced intelligence, including generative AI (GenAI), to all tiers of software-defined vehicles, as well as provide safe and extraordinary user experiences, setting a new benchmark for connected car technology.
Renowned for its high performance and advanced AI capabilities, the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite empowers PAS to deliver a wide range of advanced applications. These include immersive multimedia features, on-device AI with an integrated edge orchestrator, optimized gaming, and advanced 3D graphics. The platform is designed with safety and security in mind, and also incorporates long-term support features, offering capabilities such as running instrument clusters, infotainment systems, driver assistance features, and multiple passenger experiences in independent virtual machines. Real-time content sharing further enhances flexibility and functionality across the vehicle.
PAS is at the forefront of the automotive industry’s transformation toward software-defined vehicles (SDVs). By shifting from a hardware-first to a software-first development approach, PAS is driving the evolution of automotive architectures. Its proactive role in standardization efforts is enabling the decoupling of hardware and software, fostering faster software development and continuous system evolution. This flexibility allows automakers to adapt quickly to new insights into user behavior, delivering intuitive, human-centric in-car experiences.
“We continuously evolve the automotive cockpit through our SDV core technologies while tailoring cabin space to fit individual tastes and demands. Qualcomm Technologies Snapdragon Cockpit platform is the best fit to become the world’s leading “Joy in Motion” company that designs total comfort to empower on-the-go lifestyles,” said Masashige Mizuyama, executive vice president and chief technology officer, Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., Ltd.
“Our ongoing relationship with Panasonic Automotive Systems spans over a decade and underscores our commitment to redefining the automotive industry with proven, scalable, and innovative technologies,” said Nakul Duggal, group general manager, automotive, industrial and cloud, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “As one of our most powerful automotive platforms, the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite, is designed to meet modern vehicle demands with natural language processing, predictive maintenance, and adaptive user interfaces, raising the bar for in-vehicle technology with immersive multimedia, optimized gaming, and advanced 3D graphics.”
Through this expanded collaboration, PAS and Qualcomm Technologies are shaping the future of mobility, creating innovative solutions that combine cutting-edge technology, adaptability, and safety-rich features, designed to meet the evolving needs of drivers and passengers. The integration processes are already underway, with the companies expecting to roll out cabin solutions with next generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms in vehicles starting in early 2026, followed by cabin solutions with Snapdragon Cockpit Elite shortly after.
