NSUT boosts EV education with advanced hands-on training labs

Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) in New Delhi is stepping up its electric vehicle (EV) education to meet the growing industry demand for skilled engineers. In a major push to make its curriculum more practical and industry-relevant, the university plans to introduce advanced EV labs and training equipment at its Jaffarpur campus, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world EV systems.

With the EV market expanding rapidly across India, traditional theory-focused programs can’t fully prepare students for hands-on challenges in electric mobility. To address this, NSUT has earmarked around ₹35 lakh to procure and install up to three specialised training systems that will become part of its core EV technology lab infrastructure. The goal is to develop industry-ready talent equipped with practical skills in batteries, powertrains, charging systems, and sustainable energy integration.

One of the standout additions is a Battery Management System (BMS) demonstration rig, enabling students to monitor live data on voltage, current and temperature, explore cell balancing, and understand how faults like overcharging are detected and managed essential skills for future EV engineers. Another key setup is an integrated electric four-wheeler training rig that brings together motors, controllers, batteries and chargers on a single frame, giving students a complete view of how modern EVs operate. A third component focuses on Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) charge controller training, coupled with a solar simulator to highlight efficient and safe battery charging using renewable energy sources.

Beyond enhancing academics, the initiative positions NSUT as a forward-looking institution that recognizes the value of experiential learning in emerging technologies. By equipping students with hands-on exposure to EV hardware and real-world scenarios, the university is helping build a pipeline of engineers ready to lead India’s transition to sustainable mobility and clean energy innovation.
